Parenting

Parenting is such a challenging role! And there are so many people telling us how we should do it.

I am not one of those people. But I hope that by sharing my own - often highly flawed - experiences, I can offer reassurance and empathy to others going through similar challenges.

GOODBYE TO GOODBYES – REVIEW

February 1, 2019 23 Comments

Goodbye to Goodbyes, Lauren Chandler, Catalina Echeverri, The Good Book Company, book review by The Hope-Filled Family, UK Christian parenting blog.

Listen - both you and I know that children's books are two-a-penny these days, but there's a book being released today which I really think you ought to buy for the young children in your life. One thing I'm passionate about (OK, so I'm passionate about many, many things - but that's not the … [Read more...] about GOODBYE TO GOODBYES – REVIEW

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT THERAPEUTIC PARENTING?

January 28, 2019 13 Comments

Therapeutic parenting is so beneficial for our adopted/fostered children - and, in fact, any children! But how does it match up with the Bible's wisdom on raising children, and the state of the human heart?

Our adopted boys have been with us over three years, yet I'd never properly come across the idea of 'therapeutic parenting' until two years in. As we've become more familiar with this approach, we've started to ask ourselves what does the Bible say about therapeutic parenting? Is therapeutic … [Read more...] about WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT THERAPEUTIC PARENTING?

MY DAUGHTER DOESN’T DO ANYTHING I ASK…AND I COULDN’T BE MORE GRATEFUL

January 22, 2019 4 Comments

Is obedience really what we want from our children? Or is there something else more important?

Missy. Hmmm. How should I describe her to you? I write snapshots of all my kids through this blog, but it's been a little while since I shared a more detailed portrait of any of them. Missy is - er, well she's seven. That's a start. And she's a girl. Obviously. (Or maybe not so, these days, … [Read more...] about MY DAUGHTER DOESN’T DO ANYTHING I ASK…AND I COULDN’T BE MORE GRATEFUL

EYE CAN WRITE – REVIEW

January 11, 2019 17 Comments

Eye Can Write, Jonathan Bryan, Chantal Bryan, foreword by Michael Morpurgo, review by The Hope-Filled Family, UK Christian parenting and adoption blog.

You know my absolute favourite type of books? Those which are short and pack a punch. Short because...well, clearly, this exhausted mama doesn't have a lot of time to read, and who wants to be slogging on with the same book for months and months? War and Peace ain't gonna get finished in the next … [Read more...] about EYE CAN WRITE – REVIEW

December 21, 2018 7 Comments

7 easy steps to making a family meal plan.

I'll spare you the details, but this December has been a particularly busy one. Now December is always busy - who am I kidding, thinking there might be some actual rest involved - but various circumstances outside my control have meant that this year's festive season has been just a little more … [Read more...] about 7 EASY STEPS TO MAKING A FAMILY MEAL PLAN

WHAT GOES IN OUR ADVENT BASKET?

December 3, 2018 13 Comments

Creating an Advent basket is a simple but wonderful family tradition for Advent and Christmas. Here's what to put in it.

The kids and I love Advent, and all the fun preparations for Christmas. We have loads of little traditions that we look forward to, and try to focus on sharing the story of Jesus' birth in creative and fun ways. One of these traditions is our Advent basket. You may do something similar in your home … [Read more...] about WHAT GOES IN OUR ADVENT BASKET?

PARENTING CHILDREN FOR A LIFE OF FAITH (REVIEW)

November 29, 2018 12 Comments

Parenting children for a life of faith by Rachel Turner (BRF). Book review from a Christian parent of four.

Earlier this week, I wrote a message to Christian parents whose adult children don't follow Jesus anymore. I was responding to what some of my readers have shared with me, as well as trying to think ahead and put myself in their shoes in 20 years' time, attempting to understand what I might be … [Read more...] about PARENTING CHILDREN FOR A LIFE OF FAITH (REVIEW)

FOR THOSE WHOSE CHILD WALKED AWAY FROM THEIR FAITH…

November 27, 2018 15 Comments

Has your grown up child rejected the faith with which you brought them up? Here are some encouragements for you.

One of the greatest and most unexpected joys of writing this blog has been acquiring a number of, ahem, more senior readers - those who may have grown-up kids and/or grandkids. If this is you, please know that I am soooo blessed by your presence here, your words of encouragement and the … [Read more...] about FOR THOSE WHOSE CHILD WALKED AWAY FROM THEIR FAITH…

Window on the World by Jason Mandryk and Molly Wall, world prayer resource for kids and teens.
