We need to talk about race

As a Black British woman I find this topic difficult to navigate and very complex, but I thought Lindsay’s approach in ‘We need to talk about race’ to be a balanced and biblical one. There are deep dives into racism and church history, concepts of race and ethnicity, and social justice. Personal interviews are included throughout; sharing experiences of racism, and how Christian faith helped them process those experiences. I found these interviews to be helpful, encouraging and hopeful.

Due to the content, I would recommend this for young adults, or mid teens reading along with a parent or carer to facilitate discussion. I really appreciated the prayers at the end of each section, which point the reader to the One who can heal every divide.

There are some uses of modern terminology/concepts which I didn’t feel were helpful in regards to upholding a Christian perspective. But overall, a thorough and thought-provoking conversation about race.
