The Topsy Turvy King
It brings to life the confusion the disciples – and many others – no doubt felt at the ideas Jesus shared and his mission to be a servant King.
‘The Topsy Turvy King’, told in rhyme, focuses on the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection with a refrain about who Jesus is running through. My boys both enjoyed this book and listened, captivated. The artwork is a lovely style with diversity of skin tones. My only criticism of ‘The Topsy Turvy King’ is the lack of female representation. Women are not featured among the followers of Jesus (though this may be because it really focuses on the 12 disciples), however it is disappointing that there are no women at the open tomb – or anywhere else in this book.
That said, there has been thought about the scenes featured, and I liked the image of Jesus back on the beach with the disciples after he has risen, from John 21. This small book could be a great gift at church events or parent and toddler groups, as it approaches the gospel from a different point of view.
