The Quiet Time Kickstart
The author helpfully likens it to a ‘Couch to 5K’ for personal spiritual habits. Starting small, the first week will have you reading just 1-3 verses per day, a short commentary/application, and a suggested prayer. In weeks 2-4, you build up the amount you’re reading per day, as well as the time taken to think about and apply the passage, so that by the end of the first four weeks, you’ve covered 1 Thessalonians. Week 5, you’ll ‘switch terrain’ by reading the whole book of Ruth (there’s another Ruth resource!), followed by the opening chapter of Mark’s gospel in Week 6.
There are readings for just five days a week – so it’s easy to catch up if you miss a day or two – plus extra ideas for the weekend if you’ve kept up the habit daily. ‘The Quiet Time Kickstart’ closes with an 8-week reading plan tracker for finishing Mark (no commentary, just the daily readings are given) – so, all in all this is a handy little resource which could actually keep you going for 14 weeks – which, funnily enough, is around the time it takes to forge a habit!
I found ‘The Quiet Time Kickstart’ easy to read and maintain (although, full disclosure, I did not do the whole thing), with helpful questions that didn’t feel wearisome. Highly recommended.
