The Pilgrim
I wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy these books, as historical novels are not a genre I usually touch. But I needn’t have worried. The beautiful 13th-century Welsh setting in ‘The Pilgrim’ forms the perfect backdrop for love, loss and drama which wouldn’t feel out of place in a modern novel. I was hooked from page 1 and couldn’t stop reading!
Henry de Brampton is determined to make his mark as he enters the Church for a lifelong career as a monk. But his recklessness leads to a big mistake, which permeates his early weeks and months at the abbey with guilt and shame. Forced to go on pilgrimage to sort himself out, will he encounter the people and experiences he needs to set him back on track? And, more importantly, will he encounter the true, living Christ, who alone is able to sanctify him? ‘The Pilgrim’ is a stonker of a good read!
