The NIV Bible for Young Explorers

This Bible, aimed at 7-11s, has maps, images, colourful summaries and guides to support an older primary school child access the NIV text.

The introduction states that there are added features to help make sense of the text and these appear as signposts throughout the book. They range from ‘landmarks’ (supporting contextual understanding) and ‘tricky ground’ (elements that acknowledge the ‘parts of the Bible that don’t make so much cultural sense today’ and offer a seemingly balanced perspective to complex topics such as enslavement and violence) to ‘activity’ (practical ways to put reading into action) and ‘past explorers’ (some key Bible characters).

As well as these more exploratory tips, “The NIV Bible for Young Explorers” features added ‘camp fire facts’ (interesting nuggets) and ‘soul fuel’ (observations from Bear Grylls).

We’ve shared the Bible with a range of ages (adults too) and all have enjoyed the facts, have found that Bear Grylls’ comments generally prompt further relevant reflection and consider the activities helpful to aid application (if not at the immediate moment of reading). For each individual book, there is a ‘field guide summary’ (in both note and graphic form) to offer a simple overview and also a ‘reading route’ which guides readers through the main content.

This would be a good Bible to help youngsters begin to engage with God’s Word and interact with, and apply, what they read.
