The Little Christmas Tree

By Andrea Skevington

SPCK do a great job of creating books which would appeal to a mass market - books which wouldn't look out of place in Waterstone's - but which contain a subtle message of the love and hope that Jesus brings.

‘The Little Christmas Tree’ is one such book. If you’re looking for a no-frills, biblically-faithful account of Jesus’ birth, this is not it. But if you’re looking for something to perhaps gift a child from a non-Christian family, or to use in a school or toddler group setting, which captures hearts and provokes minds, this is a beautiful book.

It’s an enchanting story of a little Christmas tree who gives shelter to the frightened woodland creatures during a storm. That night, far away, Jesus is born. And because this little fir tree is full of love and warmth, unlike the taller, grander trees in the forest, she receives stars from the angels’ cloaks – the blessings of Jesus’ birth.

I loved the fact that the stars were sparkly and textured – very tactile and satisfying!
