It’s told in rhyme, with a particularly interesting metre (think Tabby McTat or The Highway Rat if you know your Julia Donaldson!), although some of the repeated lines are a little unnecessary IMHO. The illustrations are particularly wonderful, with a diversity of skin tones represented, and a beautiful mystical feel to the whole thing. If you’re wanting to diversify your Advent basket, ‘The King and the Shepherd Boy’ is the book to go for!
