The Inkwell Chronicles: The Ink of Elspet
By J.D. Peabody
My 8-year-old twins and I absolutely ADORED this beautifully written, exciting story.
‘The Ink of Elspet’ is a fantasy adventure in the ilk of Lewis and Tolkien – and, set in the early 1950s, actually features these characters, along with Dorothy L Sayers.
Everett and Bea’s dad mysteriously disappears on his way back from a week-long work trip to Scotland. Convinced he’s still alive, the pair embark on a thrilling and dangerous journey to find him, discovering the magic power of Ink as they go.
With Christian allegory galore, a plot which twists and turns, a range of eccentric and endearing characters (as well as the fabulously evil blotters who are set to close down the final Inkwell and thus destroy creativity and beauty forever), ‘The Ink of Elspet’ is an all-round great read for 8-12s. Highly recommended.
