The Hiding Place: A Graphic Novel
The incredible true story of how the Ten Boom family risked their lives in World War Two by hiding Jews in their secret room has now been brought to life for younger readers. This hardback, fully illustrated graphic novel is still pretty thorough, going through Corrie’s ‘The Hiding Place’ in great detail.
My 9yo twins were on the edge of their seat and didn’t want me to stop reading. If they didn’t have to go to school and sleep, I reckon we’d have devoured ‘The Hiding Place’ in one sitting!
The story is, understandably, difficult to read in some places (persecution, violence and concentration camps all make an appearance), so I’d go carefully with sensitive children, and reckon 8+ is a decent guide. But teens will enjoy this too: I’m planning to read it to my older two at some point – it’s not in the slightest bit patronising, just a truly brilliant, reworked Christian classic. ‘The Hiding Place’ is a beautiful gift – and one that I’ll be making several purchases of for Christmas presents.
