The Good Thing About Bad Days
This is a fabulous book for primary-aged children to learn age-appropriate strategies for looking after their emotions and mental health.
The language is really accessible, and although it’s not exactly a journal, there are writing/drawing activities a-plenty, giving practical tools for children to use when they’re struggling.
The author is a Christian, and although ‘The Good Thing About Bad Days’ isn’t heavy on Biblical content, there are helpful Bible verses scattered throughout. I used this with my 9- and 6-year olds. Both responded well, but it was the younger one (with a trauma background) who was particularly keen. This is a great resource for ALL kids, but especially those who struggle with their emotions, perhaps due to adoption, bereavement or other traumas.
