The Christmas Surprise
Instead, it clearly and succinctly explains that Christmas is not just about a baby being born but that Jesus’ birth was part of a big plan from the beginning and a plan which includes us!
‘The Christmas Surprise’ deals well with themes of reversal in a way children can not only understand but value. My six year old enjoyed the refrain of “Whaaaaaaat!?” throughout which he found funny. He enjoyed talking about what characters in the stories were thinking and saying at the time. I liked the illustrations too; simple but conveyed lots of emotion.
‘The Christmas Surprise’ is a brief, small book which packs a punch. It is perfect for stocking gifts and for those who are not familiar with the whole plan of Jesus but know the nativity story as it is traditionally told. ‘The Christmas Surprise’ would also be great for giving out at Christmas children’s services such as Christingle services etc.
