Suspicious Deliveries
The third book in the series (The Treasure Hunt and Mystery in the Snow are the other two) sees the group of four friends getting to know their new neighbour and then wondering why his uncle asks him to deliver secret packages to different locations. Aware of the potential dangers, (but also trying to explore when not to overreact) the children pray for wisdom and inform their parents of their plans to solve the mystery of the suspicious deliveries (stolen cigarettes).
‘Suspicious Deliveries’ touches on a range of issues which are presented as part of the plot: adults that argue, parental separation following infidelity and worrying about a sick parent undergoing tests. One of the group shares that they are adopted and, although the others initially respond awkwardly and ask blunt questions, after seeking parental advice, they navigate how to support their friend, who is feeling vulnerable and upset.
Despite referencing the other books in the series, this can be read as a standalone mystery by tweens. It presents a level of peril and intrigue alongside humour and friendship.
