Mystery in the Snow
Aimed at older primary school children, the plot follows a group of young friends who want to know who is behind a series of mysterious incidents in their town. They work together to follow footprints and look for clues in their search for a missing cat and stolen bike. Seeking to apply what they’ve been learning at the church youth group (caring for others and serving ‘their tax collector’) and often praying before they make a decision, the friends begin to realise how they can support others even when they are falsely accused of theft.
Whereas in the first book of the series, the group appeared to head off into potential danger without considering the implications, in ‘Mystery in the Snow’ the children seem to discern when to ask for help, what should be left to an adult and generally stay on the more mysterious, rather than dangerous, side of puzzle solving.
Overall, the book is reminiscent of a classic children’s mystery with explicit links to what it means to apply aspects of faith.
