Lily, the Lemur and the Lamb King

By Bob Hartman

One of my 10 year olds read and reviewed this book for me; he devoured it pretty quickly, so it must have been good!

He said, “I liked how creative this book was, and how the author weaved stories around recognisable stories from the bible.”

‘Lily, the Lemur and the Lamb King’ is a beautiful allegorical book from the inimitable Bob Hartman. It centres around the Lamb-King’s ‘playground’ that he creates for Lily and her friends to enjoy (i.e. creation!), but various topsy-turvy things happen in that playground. Each chapter tells a different story, and at the end of the book Bob explains which story from the bible it’s based on. (My son admitted he didn’t read this section – but did say he recognised a lot of the stories from the bible.) Suffice to say, the Lamb-King is not what Lily is expecting a King to be like – and lots of things happen in his playground that she didn’t expect either.

A lovely book to introduce older kids to the Kingdom of Heaven in a fun, fresh way.
