Learning to Breathe

Rachael shares her mental health journey with honesty and wisdom.

I’d been meaning to read ‘Learning to Breathe’ for ages – and finally did! It’s not light reading: Rachael’s mental health journey, from childhood to teenage years, includes two suicide attempts and a lot of self-harm. Interestingly, her faith never waivered through all this time – in fact, she always had a strong sense of calling into Christian leadership, even at her lowest points.

I found this a fascinating insight into mental health struggles within the context of faith. As a LST graduate, founder of the charity ‘Think Twice’, project manager for Kintsugi Hope and now consultant on the theology of mental health, Rachael has some highly thought-provoking and helpful things to say, especially in the latter chapters. An absorbing book which I couldn’t put down.
