Jonah and the Big Fish and Other Favourite Bible Stories

This book features a cool snow globe filled with glitter on the cover to make the image of the big fish come to life, so it is very enticing to open.

Both my sons (even the seven year old) enjoyed the tactile, sensory nature of the cover. ‘Jonah and the Big Fish’ features many well-known Bible stories, all illustrated by the brilliant Jayne Schofield. The stories are told in simple rhymes which are suitable for pre-schoolers.

The stories and illustrations are taken from other books by Authentic such as the touchy-feely bible stories so if you have those, this could be rather repetitive – though there are a few new stories like the Feeding of the 5,000 and the Good Samaritan which I haven’t seen in other similar books.

But if you are looking for a contemporary-looking, engaging, colourful, diverse and easy to read collection of Bible stories, then ‘Jonah and the Big Fish’ is great. I think it would be great for church libraries/play areas, play groups and for families to use too.
