In His Hands: Prayers for your Child or Baby in a Medical Crisis
I have separately reviewed ‘Ours’ – a book supporting men who have suffered through miscarriage. Author Eric M. Schumacher has also released this book, with co-author Jessika Sanders. I had the privilege of interviewing this pair for the Parenting for Faith podcast (listen to that interview here), and I can tell you: they write from personal experience.
Whilst I’m not usually a fan of pre-written prayers, in the situation of facing a medical crisis for your child, I can well imagine the helpfulness of someone articulating words on your behalf. All of the prayers in ‘In His Hands’ are beautifully written, Scriptural (with references given in case you want to delve further) and gut-wrenchingly honest. Each of the chapters (which cover topics as broad as praying for healing, the child, the family, the medical team and life after loss) begins with a prayer a child can pray (you exercise judgment as to whether this is appropriate for your child) and ends with a response prayer which could be used, for example, in a small group supporting a family during this painful time.
With a hardback cover, ribbon bookmark and beautifully simple design, ‘In His Hands’ would make a thoughtful gift for a family going through medical crisis.
