I See Jesus
Through ‘I See Jesus’ we see how Old Testament stories link with what Jesus has done as our Saviour. New Testament verses affirm what has been explained. The story takes the reader through well-known characters from the Old Testament such as Noah, Moses, Joseph and David along with lesser known ones such as Boaz, Zerubbabel and Nehemiah. ‘I See Jesus’ is beautifully illustrated by Jenny Brake.
My seven year old read this to my four year old but the younger one got bored with it quickly. I think it is probably more suited to older children, probably primary school aged. There’s a lot of meat to ‘I See Jesus’ and I feel it needs someone to spend time helping the child better understand it – after all, some of the topics are quite big theological ideas such as Jesus being the second Adam etc. Although this is a book designed for children, I think lots of adults could benefit from reading it.
In my opinion, ‘I See Jesus’ is a useful book in helping children understand big concepts and that Jesus was the plan all along. It is not a quick read but it is a worthwhile read. I would like to see a further book such as Bible study or activity book which helps children really cement their understanding of the ideas in the book.
