I Am God’s Masterpiece: Discovering My Identity In Christ
The illustrations features children from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds all delighting in who God has made them to be: special, unique, loved. So many children don’t hear this message from family, school, peers or even church, that books like this are important.
There’s a prayer at the end to encourage kids to connect with God and suggestions for further conversations that parents could initiate with their kids around this topic. There’s also a related journal by the same author (for 6-12 years – this book is probably more 4-7 years).
The only thing that lets ‘I Am God’s Masterpiece’ down for me is a slight confusion between how God has made us, and how we choose to act and/or how we feel. Yes, he loves us and has made us capable of being kind – but what if we’re not being kind? God has made us capable of being strong and brave – but what if we’re not feeling that right now? I think the aim of ‘I Am God’s Masterpiece’ is to encourage kids to make right choices, and also remind us that, even when we’re not feeling our best, God is more than able to equip us with what we need. Sometimes a bit more nuance here would be helpful.
