From Me to You, Love God

The inviting pages depict many scenes familiar to a young child, whilst the text assures them that God loves them in every circumstance. I love how ‘From Me to You, Love God’ demonstrates several ways we experience God’s love: through our family and friends, through fun and holidays, through the beauty of nature. Then how that love impacts us: helping us to take adventures, be brave, do the right thing. And finally, an assurance that His love never wavers: he loves us when we’re sad, when we’re going through bad times, when we’re worried, and when we’re asleep. ‘But even if the road ahead is an uphill stony slope, just like the rainbow after rain, with God, there’s ALWAYS hope’ was a favourite line for me.

There are some slight cringe moments – writing in rhyme does sometimes limit/inhibit language – for example, “If you’re naughty, God still loves you, though he’s pleased when you are good” could inadvertently give children the idea that God is angry/displeased with US rather than with our sin. Also the line “the one and only unique YOU is perfect in his eyes” is not theologically accurate! But I do accept how hard it is to write in rhyme – and these things can be unpicked by parents, or balanced by other resources. There are also lots of little letters on each page which kids will love to spot!
