Fantastically Faithful World Changers Who Gave Their All for God
When I produced ‘Fantastically Faithful World Changers’ one bedtime, my 10 year olds moaned.
“Urgh, it looks like something we’d read in school,” complained one. So I did what I always do, and chivvied them along by promising we’d just read a couple of chapters, and if it wasn’t for them, we could stop.
Well! They were hooked within pages. Paul Kerensa has done a lovely job of writing the stories of eight phenomenally awesome Christians through history (think John Newton, Rosa Parks, Elizabeth Fry, Joni Eareckson Tada for a start) in a way which is engaging and fun for older primary-aged kids. We were entertained and inspired!
Each chapter begins with a clever hook, which never failed to pique my boys’ interest and desire to read on. In the middle of each story is a factual page which gives a bit more detail about a concept, event or movement mentioned in the story (for example ‘ragged schools’ in the Thomas Barnardo chapter, or ‘the slave trade’ in the John Newton chapter) – so it’s educational, but without kids really noticing. Each chapter then ends with some reflection questions, a bible verse and a prayer suggestion – so ‘Fantastically Faithful World Changers’ can kind of become a little devotional too. Highly recommended!
