Entertaining Angels
Cavan Wood is father to an autistic child – and you can tell he cares deeply about supporting and equipping parents in their understanding of autism. He is passionate about raising awareness in the church, motivating us all to support and include families with autistic children or adults.
Wood begins ‘Entertaining Angels’ by looking at the history of autism and at different theorists’ work into autism. He looks at the signs of autism, and talks through the stages of diagnosis both practically and emotionally. The importance of not labelling every autistic child the same is emphasised. The challenges for an autistic person at home, school and work are discussed, whilst all the time reminding the reader about God’s love for all people and how the church should be looking at ways to integrate children and their families. I love the way he ends each chapter with a reflection and prayer, drawing on biblical truth throughout. I lead an additional needs ministry at my church and found this book incredibly insightful. Everyone should read it!
