Daisy Dirt

A sweet story about worthlessness, rejection and how love overcomes it all.

Daisy is a little piece of dirt who tries really hard to look pretty – but she is hated, despised and rejected by everyone – people, rats and sea creatures. By the time she reaches the ocean, she is too sad to care.

Just when she thought she’s hit rock bottom, Oliver the oyster gobbles her up. She feels loved and secure for the first time and wakes up to be a beautiful pearl after a long, blissful sleep. Oliver takes all her dirt and hurts away at a painful, personal cost and transforms her into something precious.

There are Bible verses at the end of ‘Daisy Dirt’, to connect how Christ’s love washes over all our hurts, and makes people his treasured possession – much like how Daisy comes to be a cherished jewel for a queen.

Simple text, good for independent reading for 5-7 year olds. We found the story helpful to chat through big feelings of loneliness, rejection, trying to fit in and how we can turn to Jesus. The book also has a useful website with free crafts for home and Sunday school use, as well as some lovely videos featuring the stories narrated by the author using puppets.
