Comfort in Uncertain Times

I’m sure you feel similar, but at the moment in our family, in our country and indeed globally, we seem to be seeing uncertainty everywhere. From the events our children hear about and absorb, to the ever-changing and often challenging world of pre-teen friendships that our family finds itself wading in right now, there are so many things that can leave our young people feeling unsettled and anxious.

“Comfort in Uncertain Times” proved to be a really helpful guide for us to navigate some of these issues and share conversations about them together. We really valued the way Rachel further humanised the re-telling of familiar Bible stories within each chapter, helping us to think about what the people in Scripture may have been thinking and feeling as they faced difficult and uncertain situations. It brought a freshness to the passages and helped us connect them with our own experiences.

The questions at the end of each chapter were especially valuable as they are framed as, “We’ll both answer these,” so they created natural opportunities to live life together, sharing our uncertainties in age-appropriate ways and listening to one another’s perspectives. Through these conversations, the book gently reminded us that while life continually changes, God’s presence and leading remain constant.

If you have a pre-teen or early teen who is struggling with change, facing a significant transition, or just learning to navigate the uncertainties that are an inevitable part of life, this is a book we would really recommend. After all, as the book underlines: change is one of life’s few constants, but so is God’s faithfulness!
