Christian.Mother.Working
Wondering whether as Christian mums we are more likely to feel guilty than those without a faith about working outside the home when we have kids, led me to read this thoughtful book by my wonderful business coach, Naomi Aidoo.
In ‘Christian.Mother.Working’, Naomi uses a variety of female figures from the bible to unlock insights and encouragements for all mothers and mother figures (Deborah was a particular standout for me). Naomi acknowledges the very many different types of ‘work’ that we do as mothers – paid, unpaid, in the home, outside the home – and uses four contemporary case studies (I’m one of them!) to demonstrate the varied ways in which God continues to call us to serve him when we have kids – all of which are interwoven through our calling as mothers.
It’s both biblical and practical – one of the things I like most about Naomi’s writing. Occasional typos and ‘clunky’ language point to this book needing more robust an edit than it’s had – but that is on the publisher, and not Naomi – whose depth of thought around this subject is unique, and much needed.
