Braver
If you’ve read Eleanor Oliphant or Elvira Carr, you’ll love this offering by Christian author friend Deborah Jenkins.
‘Braver’ features an unlikely set of characters: a lonely neurodiverse woman in her 20s, a bereaved female vicar, a teenage boy struggling with an alcoholic mother, and several other ‘randoms’ you’ll notice from typical church and village life. Together, they step out of their comfort zones in different ways, the culmination being their mission to clear the beloved vicar from a shock allegation.
‘Braver’ has been written for the general market, so isn’t preachy or overly-Christian (yes, there are swears), but gives a wonderfully positive view of an ‘on the ground’ church, doing real ministry amongst real people. It’s gritty, down-to-earth, heartwarming and incredibly uplifting.
