Big Feelings Big God
I was hugely impressed with this journal-style book, which is aimed at girls, and offers guidance on dealing with 18 common ‘big feelings’ such as anger, disappointment, boredom and so on. Each one has helpful visual descriptors for how it might feel (e.g. ‘scared’ feels like ‘taking big gulps’, ‘frozen’, ‘sweating’, ‘needing to pee’ etc) which are brilliant for kids who might not yet be able to name their emotions. Then there is a related bible verse and prayer associated with that emotion, plus plenty of space to write and/or doodle what that feeling feels like, and what helps it to fade away.
The target age for “Big Feelings Big God” is tweens and teens, but I feel the design and content are much more happily geared at the 7-11 age group.
