Angels Surprise
Perhaps from self-published, or small indie Christian publishers (as well as bringing you all the latest children and family releases from the big-name publishers). These guys don’t have the big marketing budget of larger publishers, but that doesn’t mean their books don’t deserve to be seen. Believe me when I say I never bring books to your attention that I don’t feel are worthy of it.
But here’s an example of something I hope you’ll grab and read with your primary-aged kids this Easter. ‘Angels Surprise’ is a funny, quirky, meaningful depiction of the last week of Jesus’ life – from the point of view of a newly-qualified angel. The Easter story is all-too-familiar to our kids, so any resource that helps them to see it in new ways is very welcome.
We read ‘Angels Surprise’ with our 8-year-old twins, and they were enthralled, always wanting ‘just another chapter’ (that’s the best compliment, right?). I loved how complicated concepts or events of Easter were explained in ways my boys could understand. They loved the humour, the action, the fun. The only disappointment is the editing: there are quite a few typos or missed/repeated words throughout the book. But trust me when I say the book is worth reading even with typos (and I’m a grammar pedant – I don’t say this lightly!).
