Abigail and the Big Start Over
‘Abigail and the Big Start Over’ was their bedtime story when they were 9, and features a girl of the same age, so there was some immediate connection – although the American context of the ‘Abigail’ series is a little different to ours.
In ‘Abigail and the Big Start Over’, Abigail has moved to the other side of town, which includes moving schools. She’s trying to make new friends and involve them in her creative adventures, but feels like she keeps putting her foot in it. A boy in her class, Greg, keeps teasing her. And why is her mum constantly stressed?
There’s a lovely parallel between what Abigail is learning at her church kids’ club (Peter, and the grace that was shown him when he messed up), and how that’s applying to what she’s going through in life – a great model to our kids of how the Bible informs our approach to situations. There are some ‘book club’ style questions for each chapter at the back of ‘Abigail and the Big Start Over’, so you could read this with your church kids’ club and initiate some great discussion.
