A Time of Green
A brilliant novel which could be enjoyed by anyone 9ish and over.
I started reading ‘A Time of Green’ to my 9-year-old daughter at bedtimes, but then my husband took over because he was enjoying it so much!
12-year-old Juniper adores her great-grandmother, whose life has always been shrouded in mystery. But with the onset of dementia, the old lady recounts to Juniper her memories of being evacuated to Wales in the Second World War, with all the action, adventure and love it entailed.
My husband reported that ‘A Time of Green’ – besides being a gripping story – deals with some big issues like loss, discrimination and race, with a wider context than just the war, making it a highly thought-provoking read – while our daughter said she enjoyed it but it was a bit scary in parts!
