A Short Guide to the Bible
Through a range of timelines, maps, bookshelves, character profiles and other line-drawn illustrations, youngsters can begin to understand the main story of the Bible as well as how it got to us and who is in it – including a ‘Meet Jesus’ fact-file with associated FAQs. There is an overview of how to navigate the Bible, some ‘useful Bible verses’, a suggested approach to reading the Bible for oneself (with three generic questions to build a helpful habit) and a potential reading plan which covers the story of the Bible over a week and a half.
At the back of ‘A Short Guide to the Bible’, there are some common questions and answers linked to the Bible such as: Is it true? Does the Bible contradict science? and Is it wrong to question the Bible and God? Our primary-school-aged children both enjoyed it, stating “it’s interesting and isn’t just for children” and “I particularly liked the part where it talked about different types of books within the Old and New Testament.”
It is a handy book to share with children within church groups and their families or those who know that the Bible is significant but want to encounter it for themselves. It might be easier to read a bit at a time rather than from cover to cover, but either way, there’s an array of useful knowledge and practical guidance to (as the blurb states) “dive into the most important book you’ll ever read!”
