10 Women who were Spiritual Mothers
As a means of an introduction to some humble and grace-filled individuals, “10 Women who were Spiritual Mothers” helpfully brings together a range of real-life examples including Amy Carmichael, Monica (mother of St Augustine) and Katherine Parr as well as Patti, Emily Colson and Lisa Harper. Their practical faith shines through a range of experiences, and chapters include an exploration of suffering, hospitality and mentoring.
These women’s accounts are accompanied by a commentary and associated Bible passages to guide application. Some aspects perhaps seem a little awkward and the author arguably skates over the surface of some big issues. However, she does sensitively acknowledge others and prompts further reflection and consideration. The book seeks to address infertility, addiction and bereavement amongst other experiences, and each chapter concludes with several questions to explore ideas further.
